THE REMARKABLE JOURNEY OF MOHAMED SANDY

Twenty-three years ago, on a crisp Christmas Day in 2004, the world was introduced to a young soul destined for remarkable journeys and extraordinary experiences. Mohamed Sandy, a name that would resonate through time, was born in the heart of Koidu City, situated in the Eastern region of Sierra Leone. As a member of the Kono tribe, he brought with him the rich cultural heritage of his people.

Early Years:
Growing up in the bustling city of Koidu, Mohamed was not alone in his journey. He had the company of two siblings, a brother named Ibrahim Sandy and a sister named Finda Koroma. This trio shared the bonds of childhood, creating memories that would shape Mohamed's character for years to come.

Education and Achievements:
His educational voyage began at the Young Muslim Primary School in Makeni City. Even in his early years, it was evident that Mohamed possessed a keen intellect and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. But it wasn't just his academic prowess that set him apart; it was his respect for elders and his unwavering dedication to his studies that truly defined him.

Transitioning to his secondary education at Birch Memorial Secondary School in Makeni City, Mohamed continued to shine. He sat for his Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in 2019, marking the first milestone of his academic journey. His remarkable performance was a testament to his disciplined approach to learning and his meticulous attention to detail. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) witnessed Mohamed's brilliance once again when he took the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in 2022. Victory was his, with an impressive haul of seven credits. His dedication to academics paid off in grand fashion.

Leadership and Integrity:
Beyond his academic achievements, Mohamed's leadership qualities emerged. He began as a class prefect during his junior secondary school years at Birch, but it was in Junior Secondary School 3 that he truly made his mark. The students overwhelmingly chose him as their Head Boy, a testament to their trust in his leadership. However, due to his Muslim faith, Mohamed faced criticism from some teachers. He humbly accepted the role of school prefect and class captain, relinquishing the title of Head Boy to maintain harmony. In Senior Secondary School 3, Mohamed's peers once again sought his leadership, this time as the Head Boy. However, he discreetly declined the position, citing personal reasons. This decision exemplified his integrity and the depth of his character.

Continuous Self-Improvement:
Following his triumph in the WASSCE, Mohamed sought to expand his horizons. He embarked on a journey to acquire skills in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Microsoft Office packages. He pursued this knowledge at the Sierra Leone Opportunities Industrialization Centre (SLOIC) and Makeni Vocational Training Centre (MVTC). His thirst for knowledge and self-improvement was insatiable.

Interests and Hobbies:
Throughout his academic and personal journey, Mohamed cherished the bonds of friendship. Among his closest companions were Alusine Bangura, Musa M. Sesay, Ashim Sesay, and others. These friendships added depth and meaning to his life. As a student, Mohamed displayed a penchant for specific subjects, including Christian Religious Studies (CRS), Government, History, Agricultural Science, General Mathematics, Health Science, Literature in English, and English Language. His academic prowess in these areas was nothing short of remarkable.

Personal Style and Interests:
Outside the classroom, Mohamed had a distinct sense of style. He favored the colors red, black, blue, and yellow in his clothing choices, reflecting his vibrant and charismatic personality. Mohamed's interests extended beyond academics and fashion. He had a diverse set of hobbies that included reading, dancing, singing, and exercising. These activities were a testament to his multifaceted nature.

Family and Heritage:
Behind every remarkable individual is a story that shapes their character. In Mohamed's case, his mother, Massah Amara, endured significant hardships. She was very young when Mohamed's father, Komba Sandy, impregnated her. Her educational journey was cut short due to the challenges she faced during her pregnancy. Komba Sandy initially denied paternity, but over time, he reconciled with her, acknowledging the role he played in her journey. Massah Amara, despite her struggles, found her footing as a trader, specializing in cosmetics. She sold a variety of products, including body lotion, cream, bracelets, chains, soap, and more. Her entrepreneurial spirit was a source of inspiration to Mohamed.

Komba Sandy, Mohamed's father, was also engaged in trade. He focused on electronics, offering items like radios, earphones, lights, headset phones, and other gadgets. The dedication of Mohamed's parents to provide for their family was a lesson he carried with him throughout his life. Komba Sandy hails from the Kono tribe, while Massah Amara is of Mende heritage. This blend of cultures in Mohamed's family added depth and diversity to his upbringing.

Overcoming Adversity:
Mohamed's father's health journey was marked by adversity as well. At a young age, he suffered a leg injury that left him partially disabled. This unfortunate incident occurred in Sandor Chiefdom, Kwema Village, Kono District. Despite his disability, he showed remarkable resilience and strength. To seek a remedy for his condition, Mohamed's family consulted various medical practitioners and traditional healers. However, the damage was irreversible. Regardless, Mohamed persevered and managed to provide for his siblings, including Finda Koroma and Ibrahim Sandy. He ensured they had access to food, clothing, education, and shelter, embodying the spirit of a responsible and caring elder brother.

A Mother's Strength:
Tragedy once again struck Mohamed's family, this time affecting his mother, Massah Amara. In February 2022, while en route to sell her cosmetics in Feredugu, an accident occurred. She collided with her business associates at Fullah Town, leading to a severe wrist injury. Her wrist bone was dislocated, and despite efforts to seek medical help, it remains unhealed.

A Bright Future:
As Mohamed Sandy stands at the threshold of adulthood, he is an embodiment of resilience, dedication, and the unwavering pursuit of knowledge. His journey, though marked by challenges, reflects the indomitable human spirit. He carries with him the wisdom of his experiences and the support of a loving family. The future holds boundless opportunities, and Mohamed Sandy is poised to seize them, armed with a relentless spirit and a thirst for success.

THE EAGLE'S PATH

Just as the eagle soars high, seeing the world with clarity and purpose, so must a leader rise above distractions to focus on the bigger picture. The eagle doesn’t waste its energy in flapping constantly, instead it uses the wind beneath its wings to glide effortlessly. So too, Yayah Wise Turay, your wisdom as a leader lies not in constantly reacting but in allowing the forces around you to elevate your journey, using each challenge as an opportunity for growth. The rooster crows every morning to announce the dawn, but it is the silent rising of the sun that truly brings light to the world. Leaders like you do not need to shout to be heard. Your work, your dedication, and your vision speak louder than any noise. In the same way that the sun spreads its light without seeking praise, let your actions and accomplishments be the source of inspiration and guidance for those who follow you. A wise leader, like the tallest tree in the forest, understands that with great height comes str...

He will depart for New York next Tuesday to meet with world leaders on the sidelines of the assembly followed by his address on Friday afternoon. A draft resolution circulated by the PA urges Israel to withdraw from Judea and Samaria within six months and calls for the removal of approximately 500,000 Israeli citizens living in these territories. In response, Foreign Minister Israel Katz has instructed his team to prepare retaliatory measures if the PA violates the Oslo Accords. These reportedly range from freezing funds to cutting security ties with Ramallah. While the exact content of Netanyahu’s speech remains to be seen, it’s likely to cover several key areas. B...
